Government sets protocols for tourists visiting Nepal for trekking and mountaineering

The government has opened up hiking and mountaineering in Nepal. The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has said that tourists coming for trekking and mountaineering will get the on-arrival visa.

The government has set some criteria regarding the conditions to be followed by the tourists coming to Nepal for mountaineering and trekking. Accordingly, tourists coming from abroad for mountaineering or trekking must have obtained a Nepali visa before coming to Nepal. However, in case the visa of Nepal is not available in the concerned country, the tourist group who wants to come to Nepal for mountaineering and trekking can come to Nepal with the prior consent of the travel or trekking agency based in Nepal. The Immigration Department will issue on-arrival visas for them.

Similarly, Provision has been made that all tourists coming to Nepal must have negative PCR reports within 72 hours. This certificate will be checked by the Immigration Department at the time of issuing the visa. At the point of receiving the on-arrival visa, the visa or pre-approval documents obtained to come to Nepal will also be checked.
The tourists arriving in Nepal have to stay in quarantine for at least seven days, and PCR testing will be performed again on the 5th day. The tourists will be allowed to go to trekking only if the report is negative. It has also been made mandatory for all tourists coming to Nepal to have insurance worth USD 5,000 per person.
