In the western part of the country, this area is protected by the Rara National Park. At 106 sq km, it is the smallest national park of Nepal.
Rara is a good destination point for trekking in the west. The trail is very much “off the beaten path” and affords glimpses of culture and scenery very different from those in the rest of the country. The
centerpiece of the park is the biggest lake of Nepal.
Along mountain paths and a series of picturesque villages, one reaches the magnificent banks of Rara lake. The park includes Trans- Himalayan valley with high ridges covered with forest and alpine pastures. Being among the local people with their distinctive culture and traditions, gives the visitor a unique experience and makes for a wonderful holiday. The primitive people give the trekker a look backward and a chance to reflect on his own modern society and development.
The great high mountains scenery enchants and fascinate as always. Like most of Nepal, Rara National Park is a naturalist’s dream. Animals like the gaur, serow, musk deer, yellow-throated martin and a wide variety of birds such as the impeyan pheasant, kalij and dove are ever present.
The Spring (September-October) and Autumn season (March-May) are the best time for Rara Lake Trekking. During this time the weather will be pleasant and you’ll get splendid views of the Himalayas reflecting in the lake. Not to forget mentioning, the area is covered by blooming colorful Rhododendrons during spring season which add unique and incomparable beauty around the lake.
Day 01 Flight Kathmandu – Nepalgunj, O/N at hotel.
Day 02 Flight Nepalgunj – Jumla (2370m), O/N tented camp.
Day 03 Trek to Danphe Langa (3130m), O/N tented camp.
Day 04 Trek to Chautha (2770m), O/N tented camp.
Day 05 Trek to Dhotu (2380m), O/N tented camp.
Day 06 Trek to Lago Rara, O/N tented camp.
Day 07 Rara lake (3040m), O/N tented camp.
Day 08 Rest and explore Rara Lake, O/N tented camp.
Day 09 Trek to Ghorasingha (3190m), O/N tented camp.
Day 10 Trek to Sinja (2440m), O/N tented camp.
Day 11 Trek to Jaljala (3270m), O/N tented camp.
Day 12 Trek to Jumla
Day 13 Flight Jumla – Nepalgunj – Kathmandu.
Meals whilst in Kathmandu – allow US$ 20 – US$ 30 per day, travel insurance, international air fare to Nepal, Nepal entry visa fee US$ 40 (duration 60 days from date of issue)- you may easily issue the visa upon your arrival at Tribhuwan International Airport – Kathmandu, Disembarkation Airport Tax in Nepal – approx. US$25, Items of a personal nature such as alcoholic drinks, cold drinks, laundry, tips etc..
